Artificial Hip Replacements

Defending NY Patients Injured by DePuy Hip Implant Recall

The doctor told you that you needed a new hip. You trusted in the product recommendations, went through with the surgery and assumed that your pain would go away. And it probably did, for a while. But then you noticed increasing discomfort when you walked, swelling at your hip or general pain in your leg. Unfortunately, these symptoms are probably an indication that you received a defectively designed hip implant.

At Trolman, Glaser & Lichtman, P.C., we represent patients who have been harmed by defective medical devices. We work with an experienced team in bringing product liability lawsuits in courts throughout New York state. Our medical device injury lawyers are equipped to achieve the best possible results in these matters, including favorable settlements and jury verdicts for hip replacement victims and their families.

Growing Concerns With Metal-on-Metal Hip Replacements

A growing number of individuals who thought they'd receive relief by having a metal-on-metal hip replacement implanted are finding themselves in more pain than they had before the implant.

Surgeons take precautions during hip implant procedures to carefully position how the artificial ball and hip socket will rub against each other, but when the product is defectively designed, doctors can do little to prevent discomfort. With all-metal replacement hips, patients are finding that the metal ball and metal cup rub against each other when they move and this friction causes tiny metal particles to be embedded in the hip tissue or even the bloodstream. In some patients, these particles cause minor discomfort, but for others, they can result in serious pain that only a revision surgery can fix.

Artificial hip replacement and related products with known defects include:

Getting the Help You Need

If you have a metal-on-metal (MoM) hip implant, watch for symptoms of possible problems. In addition to actual pain and swelling around your hip and in your legs, take note of chest pain, shortness of breath, numbness, weakness and fatigue, altered vision or hearing, weight gain and change in urination habits.

If you notice these symptoms and continue to experience discomfort or pain, talk to an orthopedic surgeon. The doctor will likely want to test your symptoms to determine if, in fact, you have received a defective artificial hip device. Also call and talk to an experienced medical device injury attorney.

At Trolman, Glaser & Lichtman, we will make sure you receive the compensation you deserve for your injuries. Call 212-750-1200 or 1.888.4.TGLLAW or contact our office online to schedule a free consultation with a DePuy hip recall attorney to discuss your options.
